Pregnancy Diary – Week 11

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Another doctor’s appointment! In these early months, every appointment is exciting – but this one is double exciting. Today I will hear my baby’s heartbeat! I barely got any work done at work and kept chattering with my co-worker to help calm the butterflies in my stomach. I arrived at my doctor’s appointment nice and early, not able to concentrate on work any longer. I duly left my urine sample and sat down to wait. Jerry walked in right before the nurse called us to a room.

I lay down on the examining table and and the doctor placed a sticky gel on my abdomen. He ran the Doppler stethoscope up and down, trying to find the heartbeat, and suddenly, (more…)

Pregnancy Diary – Week 10

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

This past week, I started my third month! Only seven more months to go! Honestly, it feels like forever already. Between the nausea and fatigue I feel like I’ve aged 10 years. Luckily I don’t gag on my prenatal pills (most women do when they’re nauseous) so at least I know my baby is getting the nutrients she needs. I make sure to drink a lot, too, to avoid dehydration. A friend of mine is about a month ahead of me and was hospitalized for 2 days to restore fluid in her body. Since she told me that, I make sure to drink, like, a gallon a day! It’s very important to stay hydrated, even during the (more…)

Pregnancy Diary – Week 9

Besides making it harder to lose the weight post-baby, you need to get enough iron, calcium and other nutrients to ensure that your baby grows properly. During the next week or two, your baby will reach a big milestone (more…)

Pregnancy Diary – Week 8

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

At this point, my uterus is about the size of a orange and is slowly growing. That explains the cramping I’ve been feeling lately. The first time it happened, I panicked. I called my doctor at 3 AM, certain that I was having a miscarriage. My doctor reassured me, and told me that as long as the cramps aren’t severe and there’s no spotting, there’s nothing to worry about. That calmed me down a little, but I still analyze each cramp and wonder (more…)

Pregnancy Diary – Week 7

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Jerry surprised me and took me out last night. We went to this really nice restaurant on the water with a stunning view of the beach at sunset. Although I couldn’t eat any real food, Jerry got me a hot double mint chocolate chip cookie with an extra-large dollop of vanilla ice cream on top of it. I finished most of it, but knew I would pay for it later. We came home and went straight to bed, preparing for our (more…)
