Nursing has become so common and popular that many moms who are not nursing are finding it very hard to get information about bottle feeding. Deciding between nursing and giving your baby bottles is a very big decision but once a mom makes that choice she should be supported either way. A lack of information can cause mistakes that can lead to health consequences. Here are a couple of common misunderstandings.
Sterilizing: It is unnecessary to sterilize bottles unless you’re worried about the cleanliness of your water. All you have to do is simply wash the bottles and all the parts with hot water and soap or in the dishwasher. This method is good even for the first time use.
Formula: The ratio of the powder to water is crucial. Follow the preparation instructions exactly. Using more water can cause seizures and less can cause dehydration. Be careful!!
Switching Formulas: There is a very small percentage of infants that need a specialized type of formula. If your baby is extremely fussy and unhappy and is having frequent digestive difficulty speak to your pediatrician about switching formulas.
