  Burping Your Baby

Posted by: Alyson @ 8:54 pm

Are you having a hard time burping your baby? Alyson will teach you the best ways to burp a newborn baby.Did you ever wonder why babies need to be burped? We tend to just burp our babies every so often, but why? While a baby is eating, he tend to gulp in air as well, and this air builds up in his stomach like a little bubble. When we burp them it helps release that bubble.

The right way to feed your baby is to stop after every ounce of formula and help them burp. If your baby takes big gulps while feeding, burp him more often.

There are a few good positions for burping your baby. Either you can sit him on your lap, lay him across you with his tummy down, or hold him upright over your shoulder. Gently rub or pat his back in an upward position. Do not do this hard, you will scare him and it will not help him burp. If after a few minutes of trying you see it’s not working, give it up. Nothing will happen. If you wouldn’t burp your baby it’s not like anything would happen, it just helps them be more comfortable. Most babies can burp by themselves without your help. Your baby will burp himself too when and if he wants to. So no need to worry!

Good Luck!

Hi,I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine. I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep. He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again! Talk about pulling our hair out . we were absolutely desperate for sleep! It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once! Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.Good luck!

With my first son I was very young and determined but inexperienced. I remember my first night home from the hospital with him. I was very set on following the exact instructions I got from the classes, Doctor’s and books I did not stop to think maybe the child could possibly still be hungry after he had the pre measured recommended amount! Well this just didn’t occur to me because I had the chart to track his eating schedule! And then I thought DUH!! This is a tiny unique human being. I had to get to know him and his little sounds and behavior patterns. In my case my baby was just hungry!! I do know that routine is important. Dr Farber has a book about developing healthy sleep patterns for your baby and child. Hope this helps =)
