Did you ever wonder why babies need to be burped? We tend to just burp our babies every so often, but why? While a baby is eating, he tend to gulp in air as well, and this air builds up in his stomach like a little bubble. When we burp them it helps release that bubble.
The right way to feed your baby is to stop after every ounce of formula and help them burp. If your baby takes big gulps while feeding, burp him more often.
There are a few good positions for burping your baby. Either you can sit him on your lap, lay him across you with his tummy down, or hold him upright over your shoulder. Gently rub or pat his back in an upward position. Do not do this hard, you will scare him and it will not help him burp. If after a few minutes of trying you see it’s not working, give it up. Nothing will happen. If you wouldn’t burp your baby it’s not like anything would happen, it just helps them be more comfortable. Most babies can burp by themselves without your help. Your baby will burp himself too when and if he wants to. So no need to worry!
