If you ask a couple of moms what was one of the hardest things they had to do during babyhood, many of them will say switching the bottle for sippy cups. When your baby is about 9-12 months, you may be ready to take it away but if you ask him, he’s for sure not! Here are a few suggestions to help ease the process.
- Don’t give sweets in the sippy cup
Most parents think the best way to do it is to fill up the sippy with sweet juices and soda. Bad idea! You’re getting yourself into a big mess that’s very hard to get out of. Sugary drinks are very bad for baby’s teeth and their overall health.
- Add a veggie flavor to the bottle
Put a pureed vegetable into the bottle that your baby doesn’t like. Either the baby will ditch the bottle or he’ll start liking the veggie. It’s a win win!!
- Start with the middle bottle
Babies are used to their routine. When they get their bottle in the morning it helps the transition from night to day and vice versa. Therefore in the beginning, do not take away the first or last bottle. Start with the afternoon bottle.
