There is no mother that likes to see their child hurting. But when their child gets hurt do they do enough to help? Studies have shown that parents fail to give their children enough pain relief when needed. Here are some suggestions for common hurts.
Broken Bones: Try using Acetaminophen(which is in Tylenol) with codeine. This combination is the most commonly prescribed pain reliever for fractures. The problem is that codeine makes some children really nauseous. A recent medical study showed that ibuprofen(found in Advil) is just as good with easing pain on fractures. If your child can tolerate the codeine go with that, if not this is your second best option.
Headache: The best thing for headaches is ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is a very effective muscle relaxant. Being that most children’s headaches are caused by muscle tension, this is the best solution.
Had A Tooth Pulled: The best thing to do is to rinse their mouth with salt water (1 heaping tsp. salt in 1/2 c. warm water) This should be done after meals and before bed because it helps prevent infection and ease the pain. If necessary give acetaminophen.
